Bill Nighy news catchup
Firstly Happy New Year to all readers!
Secondly there is the new trailer of G-Force in which you can see Bill as Leonard Saber, an evil billionaire. You know, the one with the Australian accent.
Question: So how is your Australian accent? Am I going to be cringing in the aisles?
Nighy: Probably, yes. [LAUGHTER] What can I say? Obviously you’ll be cringing in the aisles, but you’re just going to have to open your heart, and let me in and just going forgive me. For once, you know, I did a bad thing. I don’t know. I mean, I figure it’s good, otherwise I wouldn’t have attempted it. But you may – you will almost certainly. Next time we meet you’ll be saying, “It was quite funny, but God, where did that accent come from?”
And then there is an interesting interview about Bill and his role in Valkyrie:
Nighy is Gen. Friedrich Olbricht, who may have been involved with the Resistance longer than anyone in the movie, opening today.
“It’s suggested from as early as 1937, which means he risked his life every day for several years, and then there is this extraordinary sequence where, when it comes to the final moment when he’s required to make one phone call which could have changed the course of human history, he doesn’t make the call. And it’s breathtaking that history turns on such seemingly small things,” which are dramatized in the movie.
And there is a shorter Valkyrie interview with Bill here, and this great interview about Bill and Valkyrie, The Boat that Rocked and Underworld and action work:
I’m not mad about the action part of things. My action career, as you may have noticed, is – basically, the amount of action in my career is thin upon the ground, so I have no great enthusiasm. You know, if you show me a stunt, I want to lie down and go to sleep. I have zero interest in fighting, zero interest in horse riding. I have minus interest in anything to do with physical aggression. It just makes me – you know, it’s like juggling. I don’t mind if you can juggle or not, you know what I mean? In the same way as, I don’t mind if you can blow up a building, I don’t mind if you can jump off a flaming tower. I only like the bits in between.
