Bill Nighy in the film version of State of Play
According to The Independent, Bill Nighy has accepted a part in the US (film) version of State of Play. Brad Pitt will play the part that John Simms played in the 2003 BBC TV series. It is not mentioned which part Bill Nighy will be playing, but if they are clever, they let him play the same part of Cameron Foster, the editor, as that brought him a Bafta.
More information follows as soon as it’s available.
Update: There is also still talk about a TV series 2, and Paul Abott seems to be writing on that at the moment. Both Bill Nighy and John Simms are planned to be in series 2 of the tv series. Read the article here.
BBC America is confirming series 2 as well.
Update September 2007: Bill is not going to be in the film version of State of Play. Hellen Mirren has been casted as the editor in the film, Cameron Foster as such will not be a part of the film, unfortunately.

You owe me your sssoul ...
Bill will read Dracula!

YES. I’ve been waiting for this. If Bill doesn’t get to reprise Cameron Foster, there’s no justice in the world.
Alas, there is NO justice in the world (look at Darfur, Iraq, Va. Tech), but sometimes we get lucky and the right thing happens anyway. Besides, no one could play that role better than Bill. One hopes whoever the Hollywood director/casting agent is will have seen the original and *know* that.
Another point in Bill’s favor: He is now known in America, thanks to Pirates and The Vertical Hour. John Simms is known in England — as a singer as well as an actor — but he’s got no name recognition on this side of the Atlantic.
Rooting for Bill as Cameron…..
Yes if there is a God, Bill will be Cameron. Not sure about the God part, so I am crossing my fingers too!
I’ve just updated this post, TV series 2 is still alive as well, Bill Nighy will reprise his role as Cameron Foster in that one. I don’t know when it is going to be shot though.
And yeah, I can’t see how they can not cast Bill as Cameron Foster in the film as well. I mean come on, he IS Cameron Foster.
