Animal Planet, or rather Oxford Scientific are working on a second series of the very succesful Meerkat Manor. The second series will premiere later this year on Animal Planet throughout Asia, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
And yes, the series, will be narrated by Bill Nighy again. This is good news for all the Meerkat Manor fans out there !

I’d love to know who writes the scripts for meerkat manor … they are so funny…brilliant. I saw a longer documentary about some of the whiskers family, but the script and narration was very ordinary. Do you know who writes the meerkat manor script.
I don’t really know to be honest. But I can try to find out.
The whole reason why we are talking about Meerkats on a Bill Nighy website is of course Bill’s brilliant narration for the first series, that was half of the fun! Good to know he does the second series too.

Is there any schedule coming SOON to see the series? I was visiting in South America from November - January and enjoyed watching “El Reino del Suricato” and have finally tracked it down to “Meerkat Manor”. I don’t see it listed on Animal Planet here in the United States and wonder why.

So happy to hear another season is up and coming. I have just gotten “Meerkat Manor” on Animal Planet here in Canada and I can’t tell you how much I am enjoying it. I think the combination of those cute little furry’s and Bill Nighy is absolutely brilliant.

This is like my favorite show now!! It is so interesting to see how much drama is in a non humans life! I find it neat that they accualy have babysitters n roles for all meerkats!! I cried when I saw Shakespear get bit by that snake and seeing him strugaling all alone I can’t wait to see the next eppesode:D
Just cant get enought of the series, but looks like its finished now, will there be anymore? Love the storyline, and those little cuties keep you hooked. Mixture of happy and sad. As someone else has asked will they be releasing this on dvd anytime soon.

Hi, i’m a big fan of meerkat manor! I stay up late just to watch it on foxtel! I want to know if meerkat manor is on video or dvd.I also want to know why series 2 of meerkat manor is not on foxtel here in Australia. It is a real setback but i’m still happy with first series. I cried so much when shakespere died while couragouesly defending the babies from attack. I even had a dream where suddenly shakespere comes back to life!And i wonder who will become dominant female and dominant male after Flower and Zaphod die?

My friend and I got hooked on Meerkat Manor while we were working in the Philippines over the winter months. It was so funny to watch the shows. We were very dissapointed.

Was searching net for DVD of Meerkat Manor came across this site. I hope they make a DVD would be a big $$$$ maker for them. Was horrified to find there are been a show prev. and we missed it.
I love the show and would like to have it on DVD. Also, why doesn’t it play more than once a week? The play repeats of some of the most boring shows over and over for weeks. Here we have something that’s actually interesting and funny. I can only find it on twice during the week and both those time are when I’m working.
Meerkat Manor is one of the best shows ever! I can hardly wait for Fridays to come so that I can sit down and become totally engrossed in the life & times of the Whiskers clan! The stars are far more talented and attractive than anything hollywood has ever churned out. And the story line has more substance than any 4-star, academy award winning film. Those meerkats are adorable. Talk about ‘reality t.v.’ :-) The ONLY thing that would make this series more perfect is if it was out on DVD. (hint, hint, hint) :-)

I love this show. I missed the July 7 episode, thinking I could watch it during the week. Repeating someone else, why is it on only 1 night a week? I also must of missed the first series of meerkat manor since I’ve only started watching it this summer in the US. Where can I find the beginning shows, will they be shown again or a DVD is a must!!

Meerkats have always been my favorite animals and just last night I saw this show for the first time.. absolutely LOVE it, and looked online to see if it’s on DVD. It’s obviously not, but I’m glad to know I’m not the only one waiting for it– hopefully they are on it and it’ll be available soon!
My family, friends and I love Meerkat Manor. The photographers, writers and narrator are outstanding! This show should win some Emmy awards this year.
My favorites are sweet courageous little Shakespeare and sweet little Mozart.
I missed a number of the shows before I knew it was on TV. When will there be a rerun? I think you should make a special of it so we can see it from beginning to end. Am anxious to see this before the new series comes on.

I will definitely be buying the UK version. Here in the U.S., we have the *other* Sam Gamgee — Sean Astin — narrating, and he just doesn’t sound right (to me). I’ve even noticed that he occasionally stresses the wrong word in the sentence he is (obviously) reading. Bill must do a better job, surely, and he’s got a far better voice.
but I wonder if we will be able to buy the Nighy version here when obviously Animal Planet USA wants us to watch the Astin version? Sigh. I still don’t get this thing about voices changing from UK to American versions. Why? I mean, it’s still ENGLISH!
It’s because many Americans have trouble understanding English accents. It’s sad really. I was very disappointed to have finally been able to catch an episode of this on TV the other day and hear Sean Astin doing the narration. I love Sean, but he doesn’t compare to Bill. I will definitely buy the UK version of the DVD.

I understand that Animal Planet will be premiering the new season of “Meerkat Manor” on September 29 in the US! I can not wait for the new season! Very intriguing, and all the “cast” are wonderfully entertaining! I am praying the Shakespeare makes it!
I loveeee Carlos..he is so slick!..even tho he’s a chicken..he is my idol!! I must see meerkat manor, you must show me more! When i found out he was 12 inches..I knew how cute he really was. When i first started talking of him an shakespeare, my mom thought they were real people. She was frantic when i was talking about flower being pregnant again, and threw Tosca out. She was asking who were these people and how did i know so much about them. But now she even watches them. Which is totally cool! I think the show is a hit!!!! I’m 13. now a teen!!

I watched the last US episode on Friday, 8/25/06. It certainly made it sound as if Shakespeare died. But the next day, when I was watching the repeat, a promo for the new season said that the 2nd US season will begin 9/29/06 and we will know the fate of Shakespeare. I can’t wait until then. Please, someone from across the pond tell us addicts if Shahespeare lives!
Shakespeare just has to be ok, after all he is the one who keeps the group together. Besides that who else would teach the babies so good.

I too am anxiously awaiting to learn the fate of my beloved Shakespeare. When the last episode of the season ended with no clue as to his fate, I screamed at the TV, “No, no, no, you can’t leave me hanging like this,”. I love that show, so well done and it keeps you on the edge of your seat! My husband loves Tosca, but Shakespeare and Mozart are my favorites.
On the most recent episode I saw (09-01-2006) Shakespere is alive but had yet another deadly encounter. He was leading the family in an attempt to remove a poisonous snake from one of their boro’s. He was bitten twice. He did make it back to the family boro but was in lots of pain. It did not look good. So sorry…..
The snake bite is the first episode of season 1. They are re-running the entire first season over Septemeber. He lives thru the snake bites. He gets thru all first season episodes but in the last episode of season 1 he gets in a fight with Big Cy the dominant male of a rival group. The episode where he gets in the fight ends the first season. They left us hanging as to wheather he survives the fight. We are all anxiously waiting on the premier of the 2nd series to see if he made it thru the fight with Cy. The 2nd season will premier in UK, Europe, Asia tomorrow, Sept. 4 and in the US on Sept 29. All of us here in the US are hoping someone in the UK, Europe, Asia area will post, tomorrow, and let us know if her survived the fight.

My theory on Shakespeare. He stood up to and killed the largest male in the area. This would make him the “Man” to the rival group. Also he had to notice that there was a free female and a mob needing a “head man” so I think he was make “King” of the rival mob.

I guess I cheated by staying up last night and watching all of Series 1. Of course the Shakespeare disappearence has been tough for me. I search all over the internet to find out what happened. Then I found out I have to wait until next week. Lucky me. Now think about it, Shakey beat the biggest baddest boy around. Everything about their social life is to protect the linage of the Alpha male and female. Shakey is such an outstanding cat…and there is no future for him with the
Whiskers. So I believe his confidence is up and he has struck out to find his fortune(linage). He did not have to leave the pups…the whole family was there in the big fight. Reading about Series 2, Si is dead. So Shakey is free to find greatness.
can’t wait for Season II, I’m very concerned for Shakespere…what was Flower thinkin???? -leaving only one babysitter to protect the kids and guard against the evil Lashali…..not very responsible if you ask me.
As for you Toska, I know you’ve been lonely….I fear Carlos will have his way with you (stay for the “good times”) and then move on to a younger meerkat with less baggage…you’ve had some tough times - enjoy your fling with Carlos (nothing like a “bad boy” to get a girl back in the swing of things)…then get “out there” girl, in time you will find your meerkat soulmate to share your den with!

I have posted a letter I received from Professor Tom Flower who is Field Manager for the Kalahari Meerkat Project with answers to the questions we all have about Shakey. It is posted on the other Bill Nighy Meerkat Site, however I cannot log back onto that particular chat forum now. Steph, I know that you too chat on that forum too, so if you will please let the members know that I have yet another letter from another of the researchers that I am going to post here on this forum since I can’t get back on that one…this letter is from Alex Thornton, and although it says about the same thing that Tom said…Alex does give some hope about Shakey…here is the letter..I hope you all enjoy it!!!

I’m sorry I have taken so long to get back to you. I am very happy to hear that you have enjoyed watching Meerkat Manor. I do my research at the field site where the programme is filmed and have got to know the various film crews pretty well. The crews come out in groups of two (one camera man and
one sound assistant) for six week stints. They spend practically the whole time with Whiskers, one of the fourteen groups of habituated meerkats on the reserve. I don’t know much about how the programme is put together and edited, but the sequences shown in the episodes I have seen are all footage of things that actually happened. I was collecting data on Whiskers on the day Shakespeare was bitten and called the film crew over to have a look when the group started mobbing a puff adder. Shakespeare looked pretty bad after the bite (puff adder bites can be fatal to humans), but ventually
recovered, as they showed on the programme. Because they are wild animals, it is impossible to know for certain what happens to all of them. Sometimes individuals disappear and it is very difficult to know whether they were predated or joined another group. Shakespeare disappeared from Whiskers
some time after he recovered from the snake bite. It is possible that he has become dominant in an unhabituated group outside our reserve (an individual of his size has been seen in one of the neighbouring groups), but we can’t say for certain if it is Shakespeare. I suppose Meerkat Manor didn’t go into Shakespeare’s fate for the simple reason that we don’t honestly know what his fate was. The same is true of Tosca.
I hope that this clears things up a little. I’m sorry I can’t give you more specific information on Shakespeare or Tosca, but that is the nature of working with animals. I hope you enjoy the new series.

I believe that it is clear that Shakespeare died while defending the pups. Big Cy died of disease, Tuberculosis I believe. Also, I agree with the speculation of the team in Meerkat II that Tosca died. There is n way she coud return to the group.Another group woud not accept her and a lone meerkat is doomed if it is not taken up in a group within a reasonable time. Life is tough and for tiny animals struggling for an existance in a harsh arear, tougher still.
I am sorry that Shakes and Tosca did not make it ad like everyon on this site I believe, I would haveloved a big nice reunion with all members of te whiskers. Alas, it is not so.
But tgere are more than enough other members who will give colour to the group. That is for sure.
